New Farm Design for R1 Farmer – Mr. Supardi: Early Education on Agroforestry Layout for Pepper and Kelekak

A new farming plot owned by Mr. Supardi, an R1 farmer, is being prepared for the integration of a pepper-based agroforestry system. The land covers an area of 45 x 45 meters and will be planted with pepper as the main crop, arranged in 2 x 2 meter spacing.

As part of the agroforestry design, kelekak rows will be established every 10 meters, consisting of matoa, coffee, and longan trees. These kelekak trees will provide shade, support biodiversity, and contribute to long-term diversification of farm yields.

The plot already contains three durian trees and one cempedak tree, which will be preserved and incorporated into the overall design of the farm.

To help Mr. Supardi visualize the planned layout, a simple hands-on demonstration was conducted using wooden sticks to represent kelekak rows and dried oil palm fronds to mark pepper rows. This visual approach is part of the initial mentoring process to make it easier for farmers to understand and apply a structured, efficient, and climate-resilient planting system.
