Compost Turning Activities, Seedling Care and PGPR and Tricoderma Application
admin - 2 months ago

SH Pasir Putih – January 5, 2025, The compost turning activity held by the Changemakers and Tanahara teams was carried out as a follow-up activity that had been previously carried out. This activity took place during the period of January 2-4, 2025 with participants who were not optimal because there was an early village year agenda that could not be missed.

This compost turning aims to ensure the decomposition process runs optimally and produces quality compost. The main objectives include adding oxygen so that aerobic microorganisms can decompose organic materials properly, maintaining optimal temperatures, preventing unpleasant odors, spreading microorganisms evenly, reducing excess moisture and accelerating the composting process. Ideally, turning is done every few days or when the compost temperature starts to drop. With this compost turning, it is hoped that compost making can be optimal and ready to use in good condition.

Seedling Care
This ongoing activity not only focuses on compost turning but also on caring for seedlings that are on average 5-6 MST old. In this report, many dead seedlings were found, around 5-8%. On the other hand, seedlings were also found to suddenly experience leaf loss and symptoms of disease due to frequent rainy weather conditions so that many leaves rot.

In this case, the team tried to provide treatment in the form of giving PGPR and Tricoderma so that the seeds could survive the disease and the next action was to separate the seeds that showed symptoms of the disease to be separated from the healthy seeds. This was done so that the spread of the disease did not infect healthy seeds.
