Farm Assessment – Mr. Bujang’s Plot: A Blend of Mature and Young Pepper in a Well-Maintained Field

An assessment was conducted at the farm of Mr. Bujang, located in a rice field area with a well-maintained and productive environment. The field visit was carried out directly with Mr. Bujang, accompanied by Mrs. Rumi and Mrs. Sumaimi, who were actively weeding the garden during the assessment.

The farm shows a well-established structure, highlighted by a field hut built in 2005, which now serves as the center of activity and land management. In terms of pepper cultivation, Mr. Bujang manages 300 mature pepper vines aged 7 years and 400 younger plants aged approximately 8 months. This combination reflects a sustainable planting strategy, ensuring continuous harvest cycles over time.

While the overall condition of the farm is healthy, signs of yellowing disease were observed in some pepper plants, indicating a need for further attention in future plant health management. As part of his mid-term plan, Mr. Bujang is considering planting coffee between the pepper rows, aiming to diversify his crops and strengthen the agroforestry system on his farm.

The farm stands as a testament to the farmer’s commitment to land stewardship and building a more resilient, adaptive agricultural model.
